Vandaag de dag vormt de systeembiologie het hart van menig onderzoek op het gebied van de biologie en geneeskunde. Het vakgebied richt zich op het begrijpen van dynamische interacties tussen alle onderdelen van een levend systeem. Denk aan het samenspel tussen onze genen, eiwitten, cellen en hun omgeving. Systeembiologen verbinden al deze factoren door biologische processen, bij gezondheid en ziekte, te modelleren, simuleren en voorspellen, bijvoorbeeld voor het personaliseren van medische behandelingen.
De master Systems Biology levert je de kennis van wiskunde en biologie die je als systeembioloog nodig hebt. Je leert hoe je biologische systemen modelleert, zodat je hun functie kunt begrijpen, hun gedrag kunt voorspellen en nieuwe, waardevolle experimenten kunt uitvoeren. Het is onze missie om je tot een interdisciplinair wetenschapper op te leiden, met een focus op één van de speerpunten van het onderzoek van de Universiteit Maastricht: toepassingen op biomedisch vlak en voor de menselijke gezondheidszorg.
